Ash started her life at the Temple of Lathander in Waterdeep at a very young age. She did not remember much of what happened to her before her time at the temple. She knew she had a family, at least she had a mother. Not a very responsible mother, granted, but a mother regardless. One day that mother left home and never returned, leaving young Ash to fend for herself. She managed to get into the Temple of Lathander in Waterdeep, a large building of worship known as the Spires of Morning. There was a holiday feast going on and the young goblin wanted food. She helped herself when no one was looking, angering some of the acolytes that lived there. However, there were also those who took pity on her, namely one 'Lady Ailina.' Lady Ailina was the leader of the temple's knightly order, a group of knights called 'The Order of Aster.' The Order was devoted to stamping out undead everywhere and curbing the spread of evil that necromancy brought. Their crusade against the followers of Shar, Talos, and Bane was one that seemed neverending, but their cause was often just and their deeds great. Lady Ailina quickly replaced the figure of 'mother' in Ash's life, teaching the small goblin everything that she knew about the world. This included all the blessed teachings from the Morning Lord himself, Lasander. Ash was a bit of a rowdy child early on, but eventually adapted and became a sweet and kind young woman. Eventually, Ash would join the Order of Aster herself and start her marshal training. She became quite skilled very quickly. Very few match her skill with a blade or warhammer. Despite this skill, Ash laments that the Morning Lord has not yet blessed her with the same magic that most of his Clerics and Paladins would be blessed with. Still, she remains hopefully that Lathander will notice her efforts. One morning, Ash found a letter on her desk from Lady Ailina. 'Ash, I must leave for a short amount of time. A dragon has appeared in a small village named Phandelver and I must go to provide aid to those who live there. I will return soon.' Days passed and Lady Ailina never returned. Fearing that she may once again lose another motherly figure, Ash packed up her weapons and gear and set forth towards Phandelver looking for her missing mother. |
